Purpose-built for screen stories

Make your recording
easier to follow.

Capture on your desktop. Direct attention in the edit. Finish with a video that explains what matters—without pretending every task needs AI.

A desktop app, not a browser editor. Try premium editing features for 5 hours. Trial exports include VIDO attribution. AI Intro Beta requires paid Pro. Free exports also retain VIDO attribution.

01 / Capture

Start with the screen. Add your voice.

Choose a display, select a microphone, and optionally include your webcam. Use the countdown, pause and resume, then stop when the take is ready.

Free: primary display Trial / Pro: display selection

  • Record a single chosen display, not all monitors simultaneously.
  • Restart discards the current take; pause keeps it.
  • System audio is available on supported Windows and macOS configurations, subject to permissions. It is not offered by the current Linux capture path.
  • Linux capture requires an X11 session. Wayland is not supported.

02 / Focus and motion

Bring the right moment closer.

Add manual zoom regions and refine their focus, duration, and animation. Smart Auto Zoom can suggest emphasis from captured clicks, movement, and typing.

Free: manual zooms Trial / Pro: Smart Auto Zoom and premium cursor effects

  • Review suggested zoom moments before committing to them.
  • Choose Clicks Only, Clicks & Typing, or Dynamic & Snappy suggestions.
  • Imported video does not acquire click history. Automatic suggestions depend on interaction metadata from a recording.
  • These are interaction-driven tools, not general video-understanding AI.

03 / Editing

Shape the explanation on a timeline.

Trim and split your clips, arrange video and images, add overlays and text, and save the project locally. Your source media remains separate from the edit.

Free: core timeline Trial / Pro: Auto Cutter and broader backgrounds

  • Use cuts, fades, and dissolves between adjacent clips.
  • Build a frame with background, padding, and reusable styling presets.
  • Auto Cutter analyzes audio locally and proposes pause cuts for review. It does not remove filler words or understand repeated sentences.
  • Projects reference local media; keep those files available. A saved project is not a cloud backup.

04 / Captions

Make every line readable. Then review it.

Generate speech captions through Google Speech, correct the cues, adjust their timing and style, or work with an existing SRT file.

Free / Trial / Pro Generation: network and credentials required

  • Automatic captions send audio to Google Speech and need configured credentials. They are not an offline service.
  • Edit, split, merge, nudge, or delete cues; import or export SRT and burn captions into video.
  • Sinhala speech recognition is separate from a Sinhala font and manual Singlish-to-Sinhala typing.
  • Singlish assistance is transliteration, not translation. Review recognition and timing rather than assuming perfect output.

See the plan comparison for current access; external-service availability and charges are separate.

05 / Webcam

Keep a human in the frame.

Record an optional webcam alongside the screen, then position and style it so your explanation and demonstration work together.

Free / Trial / Pro: optional webcam capture Camera permission required

  • Select the camera before recording; preview the framing before the take.
  • Adjust placement and presentation in the editor.
  • Face Follow pans the webcam video inside a fixed frame to help keep your face in view. Tracking depends on a usable face signal; review the result.
  • No webcam is required for a screen-only recording.

Platform permissions and device availability apply. Refer to the plan comparison for premium controls.

06 / Audio

Give your voice room to work.

Choose a microphone, arrange imported music and audio clips, and adjust levels, trims, and fades alongside the picture.

Free: core audio editing Trial / Pro: Studio Sound

  • Use the microphone you intend to record with and make a short test take.
  • Place and split audio on the timeline; balance music against narration.
  • Studio Sound is a premium audio tool, not a guarantee that every recording can be repaired.
  • System-audio capture depends on supported Windows or macOS setups; Linux has no system-audio control in the current capture path.

07 / Export

One edit. The right frame for each destination.

Export an MP4 with sound or a silent animated GIF. Reframe to landscape, portrait, square, or presentation formats without calling a file export a publishing service.

Free / Trial: VIDO attribution Pro: no mandatory attribution

  • MP4 resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 2K, and 4K. Frame rates: 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60 FPS.
  • H.264 and HEVC options, quality controls, automatic or software encoding where supported. Audio bitrate: 128, 192, or 320 kbps.
  • GIF: up to 2K / 1440p at 10, 15, 24, or 30 FPS, without audio. No 4K GIF export.
  • Reframe for landscape, portrait, or square content. Higher export settings cannot create missing source detail or captured frames.
  • Hardware and codec availability depend on your machine. Export performance is not guaranteed to be real time.

08 / AI Intro Beta

An opening shaped from your idea.

Create animated intros from ideas and images. AI Intro is a paid Pro-only beta; the core recording and editing workflow does not depend on it.

Paid Pro only Beta Not in Trial

  • Requires AI API key configuration and a network connection.
  • Provider access, usage limits, and any charges are separate from the VIDO license.
  • Confirm the provider and setup instructions for your installed release before adding a key. Never share your API key with support or this website.
  • Review generated output before using it in a project.

Know what stays local

Desktop-first does not mean fully offline.

Recording and most editing take place on your computer. Google Speech captions and AI Intro use external services; activation and update checks also need the network. Optional Ollama clip suggestions use a separately installed local Ollama service and propose changes for your review.

Feature descriptions reflect the documented source behavior. Confirm release-specific availability in published release notes; a source capability alone is not proof that every shipped artifact includes it.
